Imagine this scenario:
You have an elder brother who uses a phone that takes some time before the screen light goes off. One afternoon, your younger siblings and yourself, are relaxing in the sitting room when you see the phone lying around carelessly as usual and you pick it up and decide to hide it. You unlock it and activate the silent mode so he can’t trace it with a call. You’re about standing up to move into your room to hide the phone when you hear him approaching the sitting room. His loud voice is announcing the phone search and if you decide to go into your room then, you’d make yourself an easy suspect. So you shove the phone into your pocket and try to maintain an innocent face. He’s in the parlour now and you work at maintaining the façade by engaging your other siblings in an aimless conversation about story writing. The confused expression on their faces show that they suspect something’s not right with you. Your elder brother turns to the sofa you’re seating on and asks you to stand as he wants to check if the phone fell in between the spaces. With an impish grin, you clumsily stand up. And on your left thigh is the faint glow of a phone’s light. Your brother gives you a look over and asks whose phone that is. Yours is bad so it can’t be it. You give that clownish smile and run off.
Your siblings burst into laughter as he chases you round the room to gift you a konk on the head.
What betrayed you?
The phone’s light.
The scriptures say that we’re the light of the world, a city set on a hill that cannot be hid.
The same way that phone’s light made it impossible for it to be hid, that’s the same way it should be impossible to hide you in every environment you step into.
And what makes this possible?
The light you carry— your potential! When this innate trait has full expression, it sets you apart from the crowd.
