Why Time Management?

I don’t know the story of your life in exact details but I am about to paint a scenario that accurately describes a day you have lived.

A long time ago, you were with a friend, and midway through your banters, they said something that made you pause. It was meant as a joke but in that moment, you saw a real opportunity. The idea was brilliant! And you told them.

Upon that realization, you quickly formulated an execution plan and were super pumped at the prospects. This was going to be a big win.

Flashback to this day many weeks later, you are doing something random at home when you remember that experience. Your mind wanders to the 7-step action plan that went undone and immediately, regret floods in.

You didn’t get around to executing that idea because you didn’t “find” the time. But what made you sadder was the realization that this wasn’t the first time it was happening.

There have been lots of brilliant ideas you couldn’t execute because there wasn’t time.

Now, you’re wondering how I know this.

I know this because that’s what happens when you lack a good control over how your time is spent. When you don’t have a firm grasp on your day, the day happens to you. You move from idea to idea with no execution. We’ve all been there, really.

You see, I have met people who sneered at talks on time management but then the effects of their lack of time management are so evident in their lives.

This is why I am a fan of time management because it helps you stay aware and in control of your life (as much as is healthily possible for a human).

Effective time management also helps your life in many other ways.

  • It teaches you self-leadership. This strips you of the need for excuses and complaints. You learn to take responsibility. And one is never too old to learn.
  • It teaches you to be a good custodian of resources that come to you. Management is a transferrable skill. It is often said that how you do one thing is how you do everything.
  • It teaches you discipline — a trait that can be transferred to other endeavours. You see, it’s not easy to live an organized life. So along this journey, you’ll definitely pick up many soft skills that help you stand out.

This is the case for time management.

Don’t excuse it away to be something for the serious nerdy people. True, there are levels to this skill but the benefits are for all.

If you want to focus on what’s important, manage your time better.

Stay with me on this journey as we dig deeper into this subject matter. In the end, you’ll walk away with strategies that help you execute ideas better.
