WHAT IF NYSC IS A SCAM

“NYSC is a scam!” This was our steady anthem for the first few weeks.

“Youths obey the clarion call, blah blah blah…” was thought of with great contempt.

“What did any of us do to deserve to be thrown far from civilisation?”

Look at me for example, I had decided that this was my year to slay (fear not) and one look at the reception at my local government, I knew that was a futile mission.

I had personal development plans and at the fore of that was the need to be more outgoing; I promised myself to visit more—I wanted to dare comfort zones. The gods of everything slay, probably had a good laugh at that. I was thrown to a village! And was once again, positioned for the triangular life—school, lodge, church.

When I ranted to my dad and a dear friend, after laughing with and consoling me, both said something similar: maybe you should write about it! Make a book! (I’ve had more people tell me that, since then.)

My dad said I could even run a series on the blog (he was the first to suggest this) and I was like: which network! It’s like you don’t understand, Daddy… I’m in a bush! We laughed about it, even as I mourned my fate.

This was two months ago and what am I doing now? Writing from Agbonle! Haha

Writing because, I quietened down to observe and learn.

Agbonle lacks electricity; according to some corpers we met there, the last time they saw light was February 14. Ironical? I love having light shining from the bulbs, in other words, I hate darkness! Humour me!

There were talks suggesting redeployment, but in my very stubborn and cray manner, I dismissed all. I was (and still am) very convinced that this was where Abba wanted me—thanks to several indications and personal words.

So the deal became: if I was to spend one year of my life here, mercifully show me why and how?

And I got answers.

I lack comfortable internet access—I already detailed my hustle to get connected here:

– to take up online courses but the rest of the natural and existing system, affords me more than enough time for personal development!

If I want to read a hundred books this year, I can. If I decide to write numbers of books, I can! If I decide to take up an offline tutor-student educational course this year, I can!

The time is there! The enabling peaceful and quiet environment is there! The personal space is there!

I had to calm down, redirect my faith to God, before I could see the benefits this place afforded me. Like I’ve told friends who asked, before now, Agbonle lacks lots of privileges—electricity, internet, a large market… modernities—but it affords me more than enough time for personal development and in-depth spiritual growth.

I wish I could end this narration without bringing the teacher out but I think you need me to.

Look beyond the stories to the lesson: for whatever locality you’re in, you’ve been surrounded with the basic growth tools; discover them. Most times we have to look beyond the gloom and doom to see the boom, only then can we bloom; what’s the benefit you can glean from that situation?

LOOK BEYOND THE GLOOM AND DOOM TO SEE THE BOOM, ONLY THEN CAN YOU BLOOM

And dear believer, you have to understand that there’s a purpose for where you are, do you know it?

I’ve been making journal entries since I got here and finally I’m taking the advise to share.

I hope that despite the fun way I try to write in, the messages beam!

I love you

Keep shining, Light!
