WHEN GOD’S WORD FAILS

(Chidera: Igbo given name meaning, what God has written.

Odego: comes as a reply meaning, He has written.

The idea is that every word from God is true!)

Chidera-odego

It’s a popular idea amongst many Christians that once God has given a word by the way of prophecy or any other spiritual insight that such word is set in stone. The belief is pushed a bit further when some fellows unwittingly affirm that they don’t need to do anything for these words to actualize.

So, a woman goes to church and during the course of fellowship, is told of wondrous plans God has in store for her—according to the need in her heart. Let’s assume she’s told of how she would influence people mightily in her chosen career, let’s assume she’s told how she’ll tour the nations in proclamation of the good news. Let’s assume all of these and more.

Then, as an ardent believer and a firm holder of the tenets of faith, this woman goes back home and begins to feel good about herself. This woman, who has been told that she has a lot to impact professionally, doesn’t take her job serious. She goes late to work; works for half of the official time, plays candy crush the other half and feels really good about herself.

Then, she spends every waking moment thanking God for making her the head and not the tail; for setting her above her fellows and then, she turns in late every night and repeats the same sad routine all over. In the same firm with her is a woman who gives her all to every task at hand; also in the same firm is a man who goes out of his way to do researches; even her personal assistant devotes more time and effort to the job and somehow this woman, because of a word in church, thinks she will wake up one morning to be the one calling the shots.

She spends five more years on the job with no obvious movement— howbeit, a downward one occurs over time. It’s ten years later and somehow through a certain stroke of luck—by the way of stumbling upon an old notebook—she discovers the word from years earlier, she takes a look at her life and calls God a liar…because what God had said should have been set in stone.

Chidera-odego but you have a part to play.

You can’t simply expect to receive greatness when you haven’t prepared for it. You see, God is a loving father and he would always release to you just what you can handle.

Stop making God out to be a liar by the way you conduct your life’s business.
When such words come forth, don’t simply fold your arms and expect things to get done by themselves. Rather, roll up your sleeves and see what it is, God would have you do. By the grace of God in you, build your capacity. Exercise that faith in your heart by getting works done. What does the Bible call faith without works again? Yeah…Dead!

To be clear, I’m not suggesting that you get the word from God and then run off trying to fulfill it by your own strength. No, you must always look to the source of the plan to sustain it. The thing is, put yourself in the best position to succeed by finding out from God what needs to be done. Pray for the strength to do what you need to, while you trust Him to bring about a fulfilling of His word because truly, Chidera-odego.

Don’t make God a liar.

You have friends who need to be reminded of this, share with them.

I love you,
You’re light, shine!
